If you like Zinfandel, a red wine that has found fame especially in California (including the rosé version, white zinfandel),

you'll LOVE Primitivo!

Primitivo and Zinfandel were long a part of a "which came first" duel. There was thought that Zin was actually Primitivo brought to the new world from Italy or that the two grapes were synonymous. Actually, they are both clones of an original red grape from Croatia!

Primitivo is found predominately in Puglia, the "heel" of the boot of Italy. They both tend to be big, intense, fruit forward wines with medium tannins. The Primitivo grape usually shows a little more dried fruit/earth tone.
