Is it $500 better?

Is it $500 better?

Greetings Friend!

You don't need to drop a bundle of cash to get a great spirit or bottle of wine. Of course, we would never dissuade you from dropping a bundle! But sometimes, if you're not trying to impress your boss or friends, you can spend much less and get something just as interesting.

There are many factors, of course. Branding is probably one of the biggest ones. Smirnoff consistently beats out more expensive vodkas, such as Grey Goose. Click here for an interesting Vodka comparison by the New York Times.  Exclusivity is another. There is only so much Chateau Latour made each vintage. It is so hard to get that people use it as an investment. Here is a nerdy look by Morgan Stanley into investing in wine (yes, that's a real thing). But there are excellent $30 bottles of Bordeaux.

Will your boss or bougey friends be impressed by your over the top Añejo Tequila? Maybe. Do you need to drink it at home every day? Absolutely not! A good question to ask yourself (and this works for almost anything) is "is this Chateau Latour $500 better than a $50 Lenz Old Vines Merlot? Is it really 10 times tastier? I was lucky enough to be on a blind tasting panel where I tried both. I personally did not think so (can't wait for the trolling to begin).

"Easy for you to say, Mike. It's your job to know."  Yes, it is. That's why you should trust me when I say that sometimes you need the fancy stuff. But for everyday use, less is more.

Please come in and let us help you find a case of wine that is delicious and interesting and fun for the price of a single fancy bottle.

Good Bottles for Good People. That's what we do.

Be well,

Mike Mraz
